Over the past year, I worked with the Kiva team to certify three microenterprise organizations as Kiva Field Partners. These lending organizations underwrite small loans and post them on Kiva’s site for crowd funding. Kiva has recently made a big push on a new approach to microlending in the US: Kiva Zip — where loans are endorsed (not underwritten) by a Kiva Trustee. The Zip project has somewhat supplanted the Field Partner division in the US. Kiva is now partnering with Early IQ, to create a due diligence process for Zip deals. It will be interesting to see how Zip fares with this new element.
