CAMEO Women’s Symposium

CAMEO hosted a business symposium for food producers in LA, and I learned a lot about California’s Homemade Food Act signed in to law in 2013 and allows entrepreneurs to make certain low-risk food products in their home kitchen, rather than having to use a commercial kitchen.  The LA Food Policy Council also came, and impressed me with their programs to have healthy food in every neighborhood and do away with ‘food deserts’ in southern California.  They are committed to reducing hunger, obesity and nutrition-related diseases.  All of this points away from corporate-produced food, and opens the door to local, small producers of every stripe.
